When the Caps boards get filled with fear and worry and gloom and doom, I know I can come here for a nice slice of pie, a good laugh at a great bald joke, and some sensible Caps babblings.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14971098.post-80558908458133679422007-02-28T09:00:00.000-05:002007-02-28T09:00:00.000-05:00Agreed.GMGM's record in trades has steadily improv...Agreed.

GMGM's record in trades has steadily improved over the years, indeed I think he got the better of each transaction this year.

His record in the FA market is too inconclusive. I agree with Smitty, this offseason will be the litmus test for him.

As for drafting, it's an inexact science obviously, but it seems GMGM favors character/leadership/third line forwards and second pair defensemen. There are plenty of those guys around but not much in between AO and that crowd.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14971098.post-86278355108494547172007-02-27T23:06:00.000-05:002007-02-27T23:06:00.000-05:00Thank you so very, very much for the sensible asse...Thank you so very, very much for the sensible assessment. You'd think Armageddon had broken out on Tarik's blog after the Zubrus deal.

I'd also point out that with the Z's gone the Caps are now flying so far under the salary cap that they're grazing the treetops. McPhee could have the ammunition available to make a couple of quality pickups via both trade for picks and prospects as well as on the FA buffet.

GMGM couldn't be more perfectly positioned to pick up a number one center and a quality veteran blueliner over the summer in a way that doesn't destroy the core of the team, IMO.

I'll reserve my final judgment on McPhee's performance as a GM until October, suffice to say that the fate of his reputation and probably his career now hinge on what he does between July and the start of training camp.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
