They attempt to have "debates" centered on subjective criteria, i.e. Greatest Player, Best Player, and then they back it up by cherry picking 5 or six minutes of a recent game and state whatever subjective conclusion they reach, as the proof. After the “proof” has been shown they throw some Ad hominems OV's way for good measure.

Facts are irrelevant to talking heads. If you are attempting to justify personal bias, whey let facts deter you from making a subjective argument based on squishy language.

Fact 1: Even when the analysts cherry pick the “terrible years” (2010-11 to now) as illustrating what they've always known, they ignore reality. In a shade under 200 game sample set, OV still has accumulated more goals than all but 2 players, and is basically in a dead heat for 5th overall in points. But that’s not a good narrative, we must ignore that fact and instead concentrate on a perceived lack of effort in one period, of a game three weeks ago.

Fact 2: Since coming in the league, OV has been the most productive player in the league and it’s not really close. Imagine if he wasn’t a fat, toxic, moron!
NHL ranks from 2005-6 to 2012-3:
TOI: 3rd (-605), Games: 12th (-20) G: 1st (+46), A: 9th (-162) P: 1 (+23), GC: 1st (+41) EV: 1st (+35) PPG: 1st (+10) Shots: 1st (+710).

Fact 3: Despite how “disappointing” last year was at points for OV, he was a good soldier and did what was asked of him and “led” a thoroughly mediocre 7th seed, coached by a relative novice coach, and backstopped by a rookie, to within a lucky bounce or two from the ECF. It’s not like they were manhandled by a lower seed in round one.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14971098.post-11329399099428674532013-03-23T09:13:38.338-04:002013-03-23T09:13:38.338-04:00Well said and appreciated!Well said and appreciated!AlbertHallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11221476894107075873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14971098.post-56110768150150630132013-03-22T13:00:46.462-04:002013-03-22T13:00:46.462-04:00You wonder how much of that is xenophobia, and how...You wonder how much of that is xenophobia, and how much is just people trying to fill time with "analysis."Todd Gnoreply@blogger.com
