"Who stopped how many shots? Doesn't matter, they lost the series." It only matters if the Caps lose tomorrow.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, they have have HAVE to get people in front of Halak. No goalie, no matter how hot, no matter the team he plays for, the city he plays in, or name on the back of his jersey, can stop a shot they don't see, or one that is deflected at the last possible moment.

The Caps had two games to blow, and they blew them. Those 54 shots were not stat-padders. They had 18 shots on the power play, half of those coming from high-probability scoring areas. They got shots from the people who need to get them, mostly from places they have to take them. "Hot goalie" is an often abused term, but last night it applied.

No less a legend than Red Fisher (who has been covering the Canadiens since Eisenhower was President) said, "The best performance I've seen by one goaltender in a playoff game goes back to the 13 shots Patrick Roy stopped in overtime against the New York Rangers before Claude Lemieux scored the winner with the Canadiens' first shot. This one by Halak ranks second."The Peerlesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10293195514553989436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14971098.post-82578011262963355012010-04-27T11:29:08.218-04:002010-04-27T11:29:08.218-04:00In the playoffs, you have to scar yourself to get ...In the playoffs, you have to scar yourself to get goals. You have to have killer instinct. You have to want it more than the other team. Skill means NOTHING. Look at the Miracle on Ice.

Skill may get you on Sportscenter in the regular season, but it doesn't do crap in the playoffs.

Sure, Halak played well. But I think it was more that the Caps made him look a lot better than he actually is.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14971098.post-86568064162814967352010-04-27T11:21:34.793-04:002010-04-27T11:21:34.793-04:00Ok, but to the people on the outside it shows you ...Ok, but to the people on the outside it shows you that winning in the regular season is good enough in DC.

It would be shocking if they did fire him but it would at least show that management does not tolerate the year in and year out slow starts and having home ice mean bologna.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14971098.post-44835914236338075612010-04-27T11:04:35.104-04:002010-04-27T11:04:35.104-04:00No... unless Dale Hunter is ready to bring some Lo...No... unless Dale Hunter is ready to bring some London Knights magic.
