Did the Caps get away with one there?

You'd have to think so, based on the shot plot for yesterday's game. There were a lot more chances in high-probability scoring areas for the Bruins. Cristobal Huet did not come about his being named first star by accident...

Emphatically, yes. In the upper reaches of Section 112 we sometimes say 'Well, they sure pulled THAT game out or their backsides.' The Bees played a frightfully stifling game, boring, annoying, yet effective.

I am also tempted to say that Big Bo was a bit out-coached on this one too, since he appeared unable to adjust to that wall of Bees at the blue line. Hey Gabby! Yoo hoo! A dump+chase from time to time won't kill ya!

Bravo to Huet! No question that he was the difference. I actually felt confident (well, um, sort of) going into the shoot-out.

That "shot Plotter" thing is garbage. Well, suspectly inaccurate would probably be a truer statement. It places Fed's shot outside the zone, on the wrong wing. I mean, out of the two goals scored in regulation, you think they might have been able to correctly place the one that was scored 5 on 3 in the zone at the top of the RW faceoff circle.

    Sheesh.

  3. anonymous...I don't disagree that the plotter is, at time, in error (sometimes considerably) with where shots are placed, but I'd expect that the errors balance over the course of a game...the point here merely being that the Bruins seemed to get more chances in high-probability scoring areas than did the Caps.

  4. Shot plotter errors aside, the Caps were indeed outshot and much of the time outplayed. Huet was great, so was Auld who robbed the Caps a couple of times as well. The officiating was ridiculously BAD as well. However, 2 points is 2 points and the Caps are the better team from a talent perspective. The trade deadline guys all made the small price GMGM paid for them worth it yesteday. Interestingly the one real trade Cooke - Pettinger is working out for both Vancouver and the Caps as well. LETS GO CAPS!!!! Playoff Tickets would be COOL!!!
