It happens, but it doesn't look right

This picture was referenced yesterday on The Official*...

It happens in sports, but it doesn't make it any easier to reconcile for many Caps fans, any more than these...

Never forget...it might be sports, but it's business first.
Thanks to sfwinter on The Official for the link.

  1. He looks old. Not the most flattering shot I've seen of the man.

And I makes me think of similar pics of Bondra in a Sens/Thrash/Hawks sweater, Huntsy in an Avs jersey and Calle Jo in Leafs' blue.

Agreed: he looks really old. I'd hate it if I end up just feeling sorry for him.

Doubly agreed. He sort of reminded me of my old French teacher's basset hounds.

  4. He doesn't look old, he looks sad. His eyes look all droopy and the black just doesn't fit him well at all.

  5. Oh my eyes!....My eyes! Make it go away!

I agree with capskremlin. He looks sad. That expression is more like - "What the hell did I get myself into".

  6. That's the look of a man who just realized that with that D in front of him, he's going to get a bigger ass reaming than he did last year.

    Ouch!!

  7. I'll say what I said on The Official...it looks like he's channeling Gump Worsley

Yea, but the other pictures had guys that are hall of famers, and some might say "the greatest".

That's not old-looking. That's extreme sadness. It's resignation. It's the look of someone who sees the ashes of the bridge he's burned, knowing there's no way he's going to get back across the river.

And while I wish Olie all the best personally, I hope he gets a sunburn from that red light behind him. It feels very weird to type that. But cruel, cruel Time marches inexorably onward.
