You heard right, Caps fans. The Pittsburgh Penguins have been eliminated from Stanley Cup contention. Oh, they will probably make the playoffs, and they might even win a round or two. But here is your Friday Fun Fact to impress at the water cooler...
Pittsburgh has a record of 1-3-0 so far. Even if they win tomorrow against the Islanders, they will be 2-3-0 in their first five games. No Stanley Cup winner has started the year below .500 in their first five games since the Detroit Red Wings started the 1996-1997 season 2-3-0.
Oh, and the Caps can't do any worse than 3-2-0. They're still in the hunt.
