Tocchet Sentenced reports that Rick Tocchet, convicted of third-degree conspiracy to promote gambling and third-degree promoting gambling, has received his sentence. He received two years of probation on each count, to be served concurrently.

It is certainly one of the sadder episodes in recent NHL history. For those hockey fans among us who might snicker at the foibles plaguing the NFL, NBA, and major league baseball these days, this serves as a helping of humility.

Nah, I still snicker at the other leagues, for a few reasons. One, this was a very mild scandal relatively speaking and didn't even involve betting on hockey itself, just people associated with it. Bad? Yes. On par with dog-fighting and steroids? God, no.

And two...well, it's fun to snicker at the NFL, NBA and MLB.
