Peerless it was only a matter of time given your optimistic prognostications that you'd change the playoff meter. In order to get to the next better "Blue" level though the Caps either need to kick it up even more (a hard feat when your 7-2-1 in your last 10) or continue to get help from their SE division rivals and the Islanders and Rangers (entirely possible. LETS GO CAPS!!!!
What's best about that? Every other SE team is below the Mendoza line. If the Caps have a chance, it's because they're outclassing their division right now. Even Atlanta, who seems to have gotten hot, too, is below .500 since Turkey Day.
The 1998 Stanley Cup finals run notwithstanding, the latest the Capitals have ever played on the calendar is May 18th (a 3-0 loss to Pittsburgh in 1995), and that was the year the season started late due to a work stoppage.
People who stop by often (no, there is no t-shirt prize)
