Let's put on our "just suppose" caps for a moment, and let us ask this question...
Just suppose, for the sake of argument, that the Caps had never signed Cristobal Huet at the trading deadline last year. We would still have the problem we had coming into this year of who would be the "bridge" between Olaf Kolzig and either of Simeon Varlamov or Michal Neuvirth.
If someone had come to you and said, "look, we can get a former Vezina/Hart trophy winner, who is at his worst a 'serviceable' goalie, who costs about a million less than Kolzig, who has expressed a desire to play for this team as that bridge..."
...would you be sneering at the prospect today?

The knee jerk reactions to Theodore are un-deserved. He's a capable goalie, who hopefully will find his groove in a new locale. He's affordable, and when his contract ends, he may stay behind as a back up to the new goalies, or sign again. Either way, we got a goalie who is motivated to prove he still has it, not a goalie who just wants more money.

Spot on as always, Peerless. I don't even have anything else of value to add but that's certainly something for people to ponder in the next few months.
RArrrgghh1!! I'm a scared blogger from OFB and I hate this trade, blarghh! I'm moving to Chicago so Huet can hold me while I cry!
Anon, it wasn't a trade
Hmmmm...no. I heard about Huet going to Chicago on WMAL during the early morning (5AM) show. They didn't mention the Theodore pickup. Frankly, I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw the Caps had managed to snag Theodore when I read the sports section in the newspaper.
