Sidney Sets New Record...Gretzky Eclipsed

The Toronto Sun offers up its take on the top 50 players in the NHL today. Surprisingly (Toronto being in Canada, last time we looked), they ranked Alex Ovechkin number one among the top 50.

The Peerless thinks a recount is in order. Why? Well, given the accomplishment of the second ranked player, you would, too...
2. Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh

He's maintained an average of 1.56 goals per game since his start in the NHL.

1.56 goals...per game?* That works out to 128 goals per 82 games. Doesn't that mean he has a single-season record in there...somewhere?

* yes, we get it...they meant 1.56 points-per-game, which is wrong, too...coming into this season Crosby has averaged 1.38 points-per-game (294 in 213 regular season games). Oh well...

Maybe they mean "goals" in the "achievement" sense of the word. For example, in one game he aims to get a secondary assist. Next time out he tries to get away with a dive and yap at the ref. There you go - two games, three "goals," 1.5 goals per game.

Sort of a "Dr. Phil" meets "Don Cherry" kind of thing

1.5 dives per game? Nah ... too low ...
